We stayed 5 nights in Sagara to start our 2 week trip in Sri Lanka. We were travelling with 3 teenagers who were totally speechless on arrival at the beauty o our villa, the splendor of the swimming pool. The 3 bedroom villa is furnished with taste, the chef cooks fantastic meals at a bargain price and the staff is very attentive. On our last breakfast we hardly said "ketchup" and the tomato sauce was on the table! The villas are along a lovely beach were hardly anybody goes, so you have the feeling it's yours. The size of the swimming pool means you can really swim and it is beg enough for the guests of the 3 villas to enjoy it without being on top of each other. We could not fault the place.

I was totally amazed at how beautiful this place was! It's brand spanking new, the staff are lovely beyond belief, they make a point to really get to know their guests and make sure your happy all the time. It is by far the "place to be" in regards to their restaurant, book ahead in high season or you just wont get in, and trust me you'll eat there once and never go anywhere else! The food is clean, healthy and is THE ONLY menu in all of Unawatuna that serves different styles of food, everywhere else seems to have the exact same menu where ever you go! There is also a lovely beach side bar and deck chairs, and a comfy little hut for lounging around during the day whilst enjoying the most amazing sandwiches and cocktail or what ever.
There are 4 large rooms all with hot water, mini bar, A.C, satilite TV, big private balconies, wi-fi, tea & coffee making facilities, flat screen TV's, Double beds, with the option of extra beds to add to the room.
The hotel also has massage and yoga classes, night watch security and is directly on a really nice safe swimming beach.
The helpful staff will also help you out with things like taxi's and tuk tuk's so that you don't get ripped off by anyone on the street.
Seriously I'm not kidding, this is the only place to stay if your heading to Unawatuna, it's brand new and they've really got it right!

As soon as we walked in we knew we were somewhere special!! Flower garden is a sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of the streets of Sri Lanka. The service was impeccable, and the deluxe cabana we stayed in was beautiful, modern, and clean. Great breakfasts and we also enjoyed one dinner at the hotel. Best place we stayed during our trip in Sri Lanka.

We arrived at the Black Beauty Guesthouse and were greeted by very friendly staff and shown to a basic but adequate room on the top floor. Nice fixtures and mosquito net provided over bed, nice balcony, semi-shared with the other room on our floor. Only complaint re: room is that the drains in the bathroom smelt somewhat, which had led to various air freshners being placed, futilely, in the room. Location is not ideal, also, as the beach/restaurants/bars are all across the A2, a two-lane road but with numerous blind corners near the guesthouse with significant traffic, including buses which drive extremely quickly. Crossing this road numerous times a day is moderately dangerous. We checked out the following morning having been offered a cheaper room across the A2 on the beachfront Banana Garden. There, our room was far bigger, groundfloor, cleaner and 5m from the water. No crossing the road, no smells and the sound of the sea. Black Beauty is not a terrible place to stay, but far better is available in Unawatuna for a comparable or lower price.

We stayed in the Flower garden in August 11 for 11 days. We were advised on the accomodation by my colleague who had stayed there before and were pleased to get the same great impression as she had got. The hotel is located 10 minute walking from the beach, location is very quiet, the area is very green with a lot of beautiful plants, the swimming pool is big enough and always clean. We enjoyed meal in the restraunt. The staff is very friendly and cooperative. Our room was comfortable, cleaned regularly and carefully. Also we had a 4-day tour around the country (all arrangements including a rent car with driver and hotels booking were kindly made by our host Mr Sassi) and that was a really unforgetable trip.

What a great place. The Flower Garden is a beautiful property which is exceptionally well run. It is less than 5 minutes walk down a pleasant lane to the beach (I know, I did it a thousand times for forgotten books, sunglasses, sunblock...) before you can cut through one of the beach restaurant properties to the beach. The property is beautifully maintained, the staff are superb, the food is great, the beer is cheap and the owner, Sassi, is an extremely engaging and interesting man who is a pleasure to talk with.

The pool area is lovely and at times resonates to the sounds of monkeys (Langurs I think) in the trees above.

Unawatuna is a lovely beach with a large number of bars and restaurants scattered along it's length.

I wholeheartedly recommend the Flower Garden and hope I have the opportunity to return.

Service definitely comes with a smile at the Flower Garden.

This hotel is highly recommended for its beautiful surroundings, value-for-money accommodation, good food and unfailingly helpful staff.

It's all a great credit to Sassi, the super-friendly owner, as well as his team.

I recently spent five nights there with my family. It was our second visit, the first being in 2007. There is only one place we would stay when we return.

Overall, Unawatuna is a great destination for its relaxing, chilled-out vibe.

It is our favourite spot in Sri Lanka, a country with so many interesting attractions and places to stay.

I just wish it was a bit closer to home!

We stayed for a couple nights, and found it to be an awesome guesthouse. The staff was very friendly, and there was wireless internet, which is always a plus, and the beach was beautiful. Breakfast was included in our cost, and we requested a traditional Sri Lankan breakfast, which they were happy to make! It was a really cool place, and I would definitely go there again.

We booked drifters based on the wonderful reviews we read on TA. Although we could definitely see the potential for high season, we were quite disappointed when we turned up. We were the only people in the whole place, and understandably the owner had construction happening as it was low season.

The whole of Hikkaduwa had an eerie feel to it during mid August, which we weren't quite expecting. The staff at Drifters certainly made themselves available to us, and we felt a bit guilty heading out to eat but wanted to find somewhere busier with some atmosphere.

We had a seafront room which we pleased about initially. It was lovely and clean, but as the sea was so incredibly rough, it ended up being really loud and making sleep
difficult! The irony!

We payed the same amount for a room at Drifters that we did for exceptionally beautiful accommodation in Unawatuna, which I believe contributed to our disappointment. I feel that the room prices should be reduced over the low season.

Anyhow, we would love to come back to Drifters and Hikkaduwa in high season to really enjoy the accommodation.
