We couldn't believe our eyes when we arrived at the beautiful villas, very secluded and totally private. We were greeted on arrival buy the wonderful staff and taken to our huge Sri Lanka style villa. The villa inside was huge and complete with kitchen, fridge 4 poster beds with mosquito nets, and to top it off outdoor bathrooms which the kids loved. The pool was lovely and well maintained, the wildlife a delight to watch from birds to squirrels and even monitor lizards !! Our only regret is that we should have booked for longer, a very chilled out and private place suitable for families or couples alike.
The hotel is clean and has 20 rooms. If you prefer a good room, we recommend you a nice private air conditional room with a balcony facing the sea .The room & bathroom are clean, the bed is ok. We advice you to bring your own towel as the hotel provide basic towel only. Internet wifi is accessible but not great. Sometimes, there is a problem with the connection. You can't expect fast connection here.
The hotel has a swimming pool but limited space. The restaurant is facing the sea, breakfast is basic. Do try the Sri Lankan breakfast the coconut sambal & dal curry. The Staff is good especially Sunjit who is very helpful & friendly. He deserve a good tips! The hotel accept cash only. There are few ATM or Bank in Hikkiduwa town. So no problem for cash withdraw. Do keep in mind that most business here accept cash only !
The owner is extremely helpful in recommending tour but we think that it is a better value to take tuktuk & pay directly at the entrance than taking any package which offer by tour agent or hotel. We do love Blue Lagoon tour where you sit on the boat and drive thru small island. You may visit the turtle farm which is a short visit only. Spices gardens is ok, the staff explain very well. At the end of the tour, he will sell products to you. You can say no if you don't like !
There are few restaurants and small shops nearby the hotel. Most of the restaurants here serve the same Sri Lankan & Western foods. Do try local foods, Rice & Curry and local beer,Lion. It is a good value. Most of the restaurants here serve basic western food. So dont expect a good hamburger, sandwich or fries, however if you prefer western food, we do recommend you the Italian restaurant called Spaghetti & Co. which is 5 mins walk from Drifters Hotel. The restaurant is owned by Italian family however, don't expect a fast service from the Staff. Most import liquor, beer & wine are expensive due to tax. We advice you to buy at the airport duty free shop or liquor warehouse in Hikkiduwa.
We had Sri Lankan massage, Ayurveda which is recommended by the hotel. It is very oil based & gentle massage. The massage centre try to sell the expensive package to you which is up to 5000 rupee. Honestly, you don't need a package, just a basic full body massage which is less than 3000 rupee. Not much shopping in Hikkiduwa. You wil see the same things when you walk around .
Overall, we did enjoyed our stay in Hikkiduwa and Drifters Hotel. We think that 7 nights is too long to stay in Hikkiduwa. We think, the price is bit expensive for low season as nearby hotel with sea view room offer better price during low season !
We stayed in this guesthouse for a couple of days and we can recommend it to everybody. The rooms in the main building are clean and have a wide balcony, with fan or airco. The German owner Britta is very helpfull and takes good care of her guests, just as her employees. You won't forget the breakfast with fantastic fruits they serve. And there is a small and clean swimmingpool, very nice to cool down if necessary (beware of the mosquitos here!).
The guesthouse is surrounded by a tropical garden, so if like a quiet place with beautifull birds, go here. The only minor thing is that you have to cross a busy road to get to the Unawatuna beach, which is only 100 meters further. Bring a flashlight at night.
A friendly and good taxidriver can pick you up from the airport.
we were at the villas for 3 nights. We had a very good time. The staff is attentive and the ambience excellent. You wake up in the morning to the tweeting of birds. The villas are a bit isloted though so there is little to do in the evenings. Dining options are limited to eating in. While ordering food at the villas stick to Sri Lankan. If you like being indoors and finish a book, this is the place. There are three options in case you decide to go out. A trip on the Koggala Lake which about 15 minutes tuk tuk drive and costs about Sri Lankan Rs 100. The second option is the Unawatuna beach and the third option is about half an hour tuk tuk ride to Galle. When taking the tuk tuk use the villa staff to make arrangements to avoid being cheated and usual hassels of taxi drivers.
Our family of six (with four young kids) stayed for 5 nights here in April 2011 and had a fabulous time. Often the interiors of rented houses can be tired and not very nice but the decor of these was just perfect - casual enough for beachside living but stylish enough that we felt we were pampered a bit. I knew that a cook was on property but we figured we would eat out and try some of the nearby restaurants but the food was so good that we rarely missed a meal here. We could plan our menus with the house manager and the kids could play and swim right up until meal time. We used their drivers for excursions to the Gardens and turtle sanctuary and felt we were in good hands (it wasn't easy in other parts of Sri Lanka to find a driver that had enough seat belts for all six of us but that was no problem for Sri Villas.
The villas are relatively close together (and the shutters are kept open throughout the day for breezes and views). It worked amazingly well for us because another villa had kids the same ages as our kids so they all had built in playmates which was more relaxing for us as parents. I think the two side villas have a bit more privacy than the middle one (their living room is only 5-6 feet away from the pool). Our side villa felt a little more private.
The pool was clean and well maintained. The service was excellent and the staff a good balance of being around enough to be very helpful without us tripping over them. I highly recommend this as a place to stay!
Set in a beautiful garden, this was the perfect place to spend some time around the beach (5 minutes walking), relaxing in a quiet setting and swimming in the amazing pool of the hotel.
The rooms and bathrooms are comfortable and with modern facilities.
My Girlfriend and i we just came back from our 20 day trip in Sri Lanka. All the experience that we had was really great and as you know travel in here is almost very cheap if you compare with many other Countries in the East so your expectation are average. But this was not in the Flower Garden. We spend 10 days and everything was just perfect. The cleanness was really good and is not really common in Sri Lanka, the food quality was great. Sassi and his great staff they can really make you feel home. During our stay we met many people there and at the end we were like a big family. They have a great pool and the beach is just 5 minutes far walking. I spend my birthday and the staff prepared me a great table set up with a great flower decoration and the same they did in the room. My GF got sick in the night and they went to the City to buy some medicine for us. Some of the rooms are even with Jacuzzi. We thought this was one in a life experience but I don’t think so anymore. We will be back there very soon. Thank you very much indeed for the incredible experience that we had. Was a real 7 stars vacation with an average spend of 67$ in B&B. Free Wi-Fi in the Restaurant. Great wine selection. THANK YOU
