We cannot speak highly enough of this hotel and its staff. We stayed here for 4 nights and wish we'd had a few more. The rooms are spacious and clean with a comfortable bed and good sized balcony. Even though Unawatuna can be quite busy especially the Kingfisher restaurant itself, the staff always manage to find you a table or sun lounge if required. Even with the restaurant booked out just about every night, my wife and I were still asked each evening if we needed a table.
Just on the Kingfisher restaurant - the food was fantastic! You may have to wait a few minutes longer than other places but it is worth it because everything is so fresh and tasty. We ate breakfast there every morning and also had dinner on two occasions. The fresh seafood was amazing as were the curries we tried.
The location of the property is great being right on the beach and so close to many other restaurants and bars, although we especially loved our afternoons sitting up at the busy little Kingfisher bar watching Sam & Malik make their cocktails for customers whilst the sun went down.
A last comment is just to praise the staff of the Kingfisher Hotel who are just wonderful and friendly. We were welcomed so kindly when we arrived, every morning we were greeted with smiling faces and in the afternoons we were asked how our day was and what we've been up to. Nothing was too much to ask and whilst I cannot remember everybody's name we say a big thank you to all the staff especially Kasun, Sam, Malik & Kurinda!
We will definitely be back, hopefully one day soon.
We had a lower level room which was great, but the rooms on the floor above would have a better view...
